San Japan was really cool, I'd heard good things and am happy to agree with said reports. Not sure how next year will be since they're changing up the table set up, but this year was definitely awesomeness. So Thursday we scout around the AA and it's like a reunion of my family away from home, my fellow AA peoples. We arrive at the lineup for FCFS table assignments only it's all sorts of confusion of what time it's SUPPOSED to be. But all sorts of familiar faces showed up:
Also got to see
Also, got a repeat customer 'cause I used his commission has a commission example, which was neat. I've also drawn my first shadier furry commissions. It's like a milestone! Exciting!
The cosplay was all over the place, including a ridiculously huge dalek AND (David Tennant) Doctor. There was Aisha and Gene from Outlaw Star and a whole slew of more obscure and unique cosplay (even a Senri from +Anima!). And impressively 2-3 Mizuno's from Rosario+Vampire, a girl cosplaying from Hunger Games, and this awesome B/W pokemon trainer who had 5 Oshawtts of varying sizes until at the end of the con had collected a 6th to complete his team. Lots of steampunk and the usual gothloli and raver chic (I love getting pics of people's clothes for inspiration). I've noticed a rise in American comic/superhero cosplay, like this Deadpool X23 couple. Although both *Alicechan and I positively cringed at the blasphemy of a guy sporting a Green Lantern mask (and presumably the ring) but ALSO a huge Captain America shield. ... WTF?! DC and Marvel DO NOT mix like that, even taking into account the 90s Amalgam series only did fan match ups of characters in even fandom followings . . . Captain America would never fight against Green Lantern, imo. Ug.
Additionally, lots of Sailormoon cosplay. Like... a lot. Sailormoon, Eternal Sailormoon and Moonlight Knight couple, Queen Serenity, Princess Serenity, Tuxedo Kamen, Sailor Uranus and Neptune, Sailor Saturn, Sailor Venus, Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Chibimoon, and I think not only a regular Sailormoon but also maybe a SuperS version. I'm talkin' an impressive we-could-do-a-Sailormoon-photoshoot collection. We also saw a lot of neat Sailormoon shirts and even an awesome print dress.
The dealer's room wasn't bad, just not really appealing to my interests. It had a nice selection, but since I tend to collect artbooks, lapel pins/buttons, and hats/masks, it didn't really appeal to me much. Got a few small things but the major loots came from our Half Price Books tour/bender. We hit nearly every HPB in San Antonio, San Marcus and Austin (plus a few toy stores). Coolest find was buying Sunflower 2 at one store and in the next city, finding Sunflower 1. Also was able to say hi and catch up with a coworker who transferred down to Austin.
I'm gonna upload a map with pics of the Half Price Books storefronts we hit, it was an impressive and happy trail we made. Although there were a few photobombs when we tried to take pics, darn you pick-ups and SUVS. D:<

Got a table and plan to hit up AnimeFest (Dallas, TX Sept. 2-5)
Also, for those who commissioned me and are still waiting . . . thank you, THANK YOU for your patience. They're all in varying states of completion and I haven't forgotten about you at all. T___T;;; The San Japan con prep got me before I could finish them before the month turned over, but ALL of them will DEFINITELY be done by the end of the month/before Animefest. x_x
